The first reading of LoNotes Music’s new musical Ellis! was a blast. We performed for a lovely crowd at the Nanny J. Lee Center in Alexandria on October 29th. The reading was recorded and I look forward to sharing some footage from the performance soon.
I had the opportunity to play many ensemble roles in the reading. As a member of the featured trio in the immigrant chorus, I morphed many times over as we portrayed everything from sweet college coeds with an Andrews Sisters’ flair to burly Pennsylvania miners with a bone to pick. Playing the exasperated stage manager at the Metropolitan Opera was one of my favorites, and while I’ve certainly never been on the crew at the Met, as a former stage manager, I didn’t have dig too hard for the inspiration for that character!
